Jamie and John are on the move in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 20

We get another very short chapter with Outlander Book 8, Chapter 20. We see John and Jamie on the move, but are they really any closer to their destinations?

I sometimes feel like a lot of the shorter chapters in Written in My Own Heart’s Blood could have been combined with other chapters. Just take this one. We get a very short chapter of John and Jamie on the move, but they don’t get any closer to where they need to be. We could combine them with future chapters or even add them to the end of previous chapters.

Both are in very different situations. While Jamie is simply trying to get back to Claire, John is trying to survive.

The chapter doesn’t have that much in the way of foreshadowing. Not that I see, anyway. It’s more about just getting the two men closer to their intended destinations—which happens to be to the same place.

We may see the chapters used in the TV series, but they won’t take up a lot of time. I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section.
