Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

I think there is a bit of foreshadowing in William’s journey in this chapter. He needs to pull away from everything that he once knew to figure himself out. Jane is the first person since Rachel we’ve seen him connect to, and I don’t think that’s a coincidence. William feels somewhat connected to her, and that’s surely going to come up again in the future.

I do think most of this chapter is plot development rather than foreshadowing, though. William needs someone who isn’t connected to the British Army or Lord John Grey in any way to talk about things. Jane becomes that person.

Adapting the Written in My Own Heart’s Blood chapter

It’s hard to tell if this chapter will be used in the TV series. This does introduce us to another character, Jane, which leads to a development of another character in the books. I just don’t think there’s going to be enough time to tell it all.

Instead, we may see a loose adaptation of this chapter. We need to see William figure everything out, but it needs to happen at a quicker pace in the series. I wonder if Jane won’t become all that important and is only around for an episode.
