How many episodes are in the Outlander prequel series?
Outlander: Blood of My Blood is officially happening, and now we even have an episode count. How many episodes will be in the Outlander prequel?
When news that Outlander Season 8 would be the last dropped, STARZ also re-confirmed that the prequel series was happening. The Outlander prequel series is officially titled Outlander: Blood of My Blood at the moment, and it is based on Jamie’s parents.
The news about the prequel initially dropped early last year, and then in the summer of 2022, we got confirmation that the series had been greenlit. This was when Diana Gabaldon was announced as a consultant for the series but she took to social media to say that she wasn’t talked to about that before the release.
While re-confirming the Outlander prequel, we also got word on the episode count for the first season.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 1 episode count
The first season is set to consist of 10 episodes. This is shorter than most seasons of Outlander, but it will match the eighth and final season of the main series.
10 episodes is becoming pretty common for a lot of streaming shows now. In fact, eighth episodes is becoming common for the likes of Prime Video and Netflix. It costs a lot to create TV shows, especially period dramas, and one of the easiest ways to cut the costs is to reduce the episode count.
Blood of My Blood will focus on Jamie’s parents, Ellen and Brian. It’s going to be their love story, which has been told in pieces throughout the series. However, we only ever hear it from other people. Even Jamie has really only heard it from others as his mom died when he was young. This will be a chance to see the real story, a little like The Winchesters has done for Supernatural—although I hope the Outlander prequel stick to the Outlander canon a bit better!
