On the 10th day of Claire-mas, I’m taking a look at Claire’s life with her family. How many children does she have? We’re not just talking biological.

Family is not just about blood. That’s something a lot of TV shows teach us, and it’s certainly something we can learn from Outlander. You don’t even have to just marry into a family to become family.

This is something pointed out very early on. It all happens while in France, and it leads to me looking at just how many children Claire Fraser actually has.

Claire-mas: The biological children of Claire Fraser

Claire has two biological children. One of those she miscarried in Paris in 1744. It’s all about Faith Fraser.

Faith was stillborn. She shouldn’t have been baptized, and she shouldn’t have been buried in the church grounds. Mother Hildegard broke the law on that point out of love for Claire. Claire wasn’t even around for any of this as she was suffering from childbed fever at the time.

After Faith was Brianna. Bree was conceived two years later, but born 200 years later. Yes, Bree traveled through the stones with Claire while Claire was pregnant and was born in 1948. Frank raised her as his own, but she would later find out about Jamie.

Adopted children of Claire Fraser

Family isn’t all about blood, though. There are two important members of the family, and one of them was unofficially adopted.

Fergus Claudel Fraser was the little boy in the brothel who Jamie employed to help steal letters. It helped Jamie crack the code and eventually figure out that the Duke of Sandringham was a Jacobite.

Fergus left Paris with Claire and Jamie, taking part in the Battle of Prestonpans. It was around this time we realized just how much a part of Claire and Jamie’s lives he was. When Claire left and Jamie was in hiding, Fergus lost a hand to protect “Milord.” He was also very happy to see Claire return 20 years later.

Then there’s Marsali, who married Fergus. Now, Marsali and Claire did not get along at first. Marsali had heard all sorts of stories from Laoghaire, and Claire just thought Marsali would be a mini-Laoghaire. That wasn’t the case at all.

The two eventually found common ground. Now they have a mutual love and respect for each other, and Marsali has turned to Claire on multiple occasions when it’s come to advice only a mother could offer.

The same has happened with Roger, too. Roger is Claire’s son-in-law, but sometimes, she treats him just like a son.
