Pop-up panels at Sasnak City: The Gathering 2022 were a big surprise
Sasnak City: The Gathering 2022 brought us a lot of surprises. One of them was a series of pop-up panels throughout the weekend.
There aren’t too many big panels at Sasnak City events. We get the opening ceremony and the closing ceremony, and then there is usually one other during the week. The rest of the event is made up of meet and greets, photo ops, autographs, and spending time with friends.
This is possibly one of the downsides of small conventions. If you want something with a lot of panels, you need to head to the likes of NYCC and Wizard World. Of course, you’re not just getting Outlander there. You’re not even guaranteed Outlander at these events. With Sasnak City, you’re going to get an intimate event that is all about your favorite show/book series.
However, Gina Phipps-Hubbell understands that it can be disappointing for those who love panels. So, at Sasnak City: The Gathering 2022, there were some surprise pop-up panels added.
What happened at the surprise pop-up panels at Sasnak City: The Gathering 2022?
There was at least one panel per day. The first started with Alexander Vlahos and Richard Rankin after we found out Rankin was the surprise guest. Then we got solo panels with Steven Cree and Stephen Walters, and at the end, we got the “Dirty Duo,” Vlahos and Jessica Reynolds.
They were never going to be that easy to add into the schedule that’s already jam-packed. However, they were brilliant treats to get to know the cast a little more.
The best thing is they all happened in the lobby area, which is where all attendees would hang out and chat with friends throughout the event. It was the drop-off point because all our belongings would stay in that room throughout the day (except for Saturday night for Blue Mountain).
These panels gave fans a chance to ask questions. One of my favorite moments was seeing all the praise Vlahos kept giving Reynolds for her performance of Malva Christie. He is a gem in the acting world. They all are, of course, bu Vlahos is just so supportive of his castmates and makes sure they get credit for what they do.
Walters’s pop-up panel was amazing for music fans. He brought his guitar along and serenaded everyone.
The only rule at the pop-ups was no video.
I didn’t get many photos of the pop-ups, but here’s a look at them.
