Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Jamie bringing Claire a buffalo robe. It doesn’t stay this sweet, though. Ian interrupts Claire’s thoughts of Jamie. He is in love with Rachel, but he was killing a woman named Abigail.

We knew about this through Rachel in the previous chapter. She’s jealous that Ian kissed Abigail. However, we didn’t get all the details. Well, it turns out it’s very similar to Jamie and Laoghaire in Outlander. Jamie loved Claire but he kissed Laoghaire in the archway. Ian has done something similar.

It doesn’t help that if Rachel chooses Ian, she’ll be kicked out of the Quaker community. Denny will also face the same fate as Rachel’s brother. Claire suggests that Ian could convert to being a Quaker, but that isn’t a life for him. He’s too violent.

How? Well, that comes up in the chapter. The man from a previous chapter shows up to talk to Jamie. He tells Jamie that he was an overseer in Jamaica when the Scottish prisoners came over. These men in Jamaica died within a couple of weeks, but before Willie Coulter died, he told the overseer that Jamie had killed Douglas MacKenzie.

This man is threatening to blackmail Jamie. Before Jamie can figure out what to do, Ian kills the man. It’s in front of Colonel Martin and two others. Ian and Jamie flee, and Claire has to run after them and figure out where to go. Martin catches up to her and Ian, and he’s about to shoot.

Rachel gets to them, and just then Rollo jumps out and bites Martin. The gun goes off and it sounds like Rollo has been shot. Claire and the others manage to get away from the camp and Claire can check on Rollo.

He has broken his shoulder. Ian thinks the only thing to do is euthanize Rollo, even though he doesn’t want to. Rachel promises to look after Rollo and make sure he heals. She just wants to make sure that Ian is safe and tells him to run at the very end of the chapter.
