Will Bill Paterson be in House of the Dragon Season 2?
We knew about a few Outlander faces in House of the Dragon, but Bill Paterson was more of a surprise. Will he return in Season 2?
Caution: This post will contain spoilers for House of the Dragon Season 1.
There is no doubt that we love to see Outlander faces in other projects. We knew House of the Dragon was going to have some great ones. Before the series, we knew Graham McTavish and Wil Johnson would be in the show. One face that was a little more unexpected was Bill Paterson.
Okay, we did hear about the casting back in September 2021. It was at the time of a lot of other names being announced, so you’d be forgiven if you overlooked the casting. Considering he was also being cast in multiple other productions, including The Sandman, at the time, it was also very easy to overlook this casting.
He took on the role of Lord Lyman Beesbury, the Lord of Honeyholt and Master of Coin. He certainly had some opinions to share after the death of King Viserys, but will he be around in House of the Dragon Season 2?
Bill Paterson will not be back in House of the Dragon Season 2
It’s highly unlikely that we’ll get to see Paterson return. We just have to look at the ninth episode of the season to see why that’s the case.
After Viserys’s death, Alicent tells the Small Council that Viserys wanted her son Aegon to be king. This is against the last thing the Council is told. Viserys wanted his eldest child, Rhaenyra, to be the Queen of Westeros.
While much of the Small Council went with Alicent’s ideas, Lord Beesbury was not on that side of thinking. He wanted to follow the last known decisions of the king, and that meant putting Rhaenyra on the throne. While he stood and shouted, Ser Criston walked over to him and forced him down. Beesbury’s head hit a small item on the table and he was immediately killed.
That’s it. Unless there are flashbacks or we’re going to see characters come back from the dead—and there haven’t been White Walkers or the Lord of Light followers seen just yet—we’re not going to see Paterson return.
