Outlander Book Club: An Echo in the Bone Chapter 56 breakdown

Claire comes across William Ransom in Outlander Book 7, Chapter 56

Claire and Jamie are separated once more in Outlander Book 7, Chapter 56. This does mean that Claire can meet William, and she can certainly see the resemblance.

Claire and Jamie have to be separated for this part of the storyline. If Jamie was there, everyone would be able to see the resemblance between Jamie and William. It would be clear that William is not the son of the man he thinks he is.

What I love is that while it would be expected for Claire to remember William, he remembers her too. We also learn that William hasn’t inherited everything of Jamie’s, especially his ability to mask what he’s thinking.

Ian also turns up to save Claire. I do expect to see this chapter used in the TV series, and I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section.

Does it foreshadow anything, though? It certainly does. William still needs to see Jamie for himself. I also get a sense of something about Brianna being foreshadowed, and I’ll get to that in the foreshadowing section.
