Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

The first bit of foreshadowing is in Ian’s thoughts of Rachel. He doesn’t do a lot of thinking of other people, except for family. This is certainly a sign that his heart is slowly healing and he’s able to move forward in life. Rachel means a lot to him, even if he doesn’t want to admit it right now.

We know that Ian and Rachel eventually end up together. I do think this chapter foreshadows that Rachel is Ian’s salvation of sorts.

Then there’s the bit with nobody noticing Ian. I think it foreshadows the British losing—of course, that’s history, but there is still a story, there. The British soldiers aren’t the most observant or they don’t really care. They should considering what they have to lose, but this disarray of sorts does foreshadow the trouble for the British to come.

Adapting An Echo in the Bone chapter

I’m not sure we’ll see this chapter used in the TV series. Even if the fort parts are used, I don’t think we’ll see Ian separated from Claire and Jamie. That’s mostly because he went off on a journey of discovery of sorts when he found out Emily was near. He’s already gained closure from his relationship with Emily in the TV series.

That being said, I would love to see Ian come across Emily again. Plus, Ian leaving is the way the Hunters come into the story. Of course, we could see some changes to have the Hunters with William at first and then Ian come in later, potentially with Claire right away.
