Ian returns to the fort to see the aftermath in Outlander Book 7, Chapter 54
If you were wondering about Ian in the previous two chapters, fears would be subsided in Outlander Book 7, Chapter 54. Ian was still away from camp, but he returns during this chapter.
He gets to see the aftermath of everything that took place. Initially, he fears the worse. Who wouldn’t? He sees that the British now have the fort, and that would usually mean some sort of skirmish. The good news is that wasn’t the case after all.
Ian can tell that nothing bad happened, and that gives him hope. He doesn’t just think about Claire and Jamie, though. He thinks about Rachel in this chapter, and that certainly foreshadows some things to come. It’s not usual for a woman to take over his thoughts unless they’re family or Emily.
We also get reminded of that cannon that was supposed to explode again. That happens, and Ian realizes that he will need to get out of dodge.
I’m not sure if this chapter will end up being used in the TV series, even if the fort parts are included. I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section.
