Outlander Book Club: An Echo in the Bone Chapter 22 breakdown
Just the Outlander chapter
We know that Jamie has connections with his family. He’s mentioned before how he’s seen Claire and Brianna and knew they were in the future. Now he’s seeing the grandchildren. Claire is a little jealous, but it’s only fair since Jamie missed out on Bree’s whole upbringing.
Jamie explains that he sees the children at Lallybroch. They are near the broch, and Jamie senses that there is danger. There were certainly things in the previous chapter that hinted someone was watching, and now Jamie senses all that from his visions. The problem is he can’t get word to them that they are in trouble—or potentially in trouble.
We get this opportunity to see Jamie’s gift develop over time. Claire has had a little more time to develop her healing skills, something that will also be made into something bigger with magic. There’s also a sense that other time travelers can have abilities, and we know there are senses that Mandy and Jem have abilities.
Jamie was always left out, but not anymore. He just needs to learn more about what he can do with his visions.
We also get a chance to see a lighter side of Jamie, something that has been missing for a few books. He’s had to grow serious with age after everything that’s happened to him, but he’s so creative in the telling of his vision. I adore it.
