Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Claire taking stock of everything she is leaving behind. She is leaving a home, even if there isn’t all that much left at the Ridge. There are memories and people being left behind, and she’ll certainly miss most of the animals.

While in the garden, she looks at the spot Malva was killed. She’s so overwhelmed that she has to hold onto the wooden posts, which remind her of prison cell bars. One thing she realizes is that the blood has disappeared from the wood. It was something Claire never thought would disappear completely, but nature has a way to return everything to its right way.

Adso shows up. This is the point Claire cries. She is going to miss this cat, but he can’t come with her.

Jamie shows up at the end and comments that it’s the cat she weeps for. He isn’t weeping, but he wants to. He will miss a lot of what’s around him, too. However, he is also going back to family he loves. He’s going back to his childhood home.

It’s also not forever. That’s something to remember with this chapter. The Frasers plan on returning to the Ridge.
