Claire goes through the items she needs to pack in Outlander Book 7, Chapter 8
We pick up in 1777 with Claire and Jamie preparing to leave North Carolina in Outlander Book 7, Chapter 8. They’re not planning on leaving long, but they need to pack enough supplies.
There is a bitterness to this chapter. As Claire runs through the items she’s packing, she thinks about the fire. This then leads to thoughts about Mrs. Bug. Despite Mrs. Bug’s flaws, we’re reminded that she was a kind woman to the Frasers for some time. Of course, it was a matter of survival for Mrs. Bug, but that doesn’t necessarily take away from her actions.
This chapter is full of ghosts of the past. We’re also reminded of Nayawenne and the Muellers. I love how the conversations flow with connections to the past. This is how real life is.
There are some good elements to the chapter, though, including some sweet moments of life at the Ridge right now. I love seeing how Bobby is connecting with his stepsons.
I do sense a bit of foreshadowing in this chapter, and I’ll get to that in the foreshadowing section. As for whether it will be used in the TV series, I think so, but not in full. I’ll get to my thoughts on how that could work and which parts are necessary in the adaptation section.
Let’s dive into An Echo in the Bone Chapter8.
