Outlander prequel: Will Duncan Lacroix be in Blood of My Blood?
The Outlander prequel is officially in the works. Blood of My Blood will tell the story of Brian and Ellen Fraser. Does that mean Murtagh will be there? Could Duncan Lacroix be in the series?
The Outlander prequel is officially in development. The series will be called Blood of My Blood, and as mentioned by Sam Heughan, it will be about Jamie’s parents. That does rule Heughan out of the series unless there’s some sort of flashforwards or something similar to the way The Winchesters is handling the Supernatural prequel spin-off.
There are some characters who could return from the first two seasons of Outlander. One of those is Duncan Lacroix. If the prequel series is about Brian and Ellen, that must mean Murtagh will be around, right?
Will Murtagh be part of the Outlander prequel?
When Diana Gabaldon shared she was working on a prequel story about Jamie’s parents, she did confirm that Murtagh would be part of it. This only makes sense. We know that Murtagh was a close friend of the Frasers. He loved Ellen MacKenzie, but he didn’t fight Brian for her hand. He respected her decision to marry Brian.
All this led to Murtagh getting a very special place in the family. He is Jamie’s godfather, and we got a flashback in Outlander Season 5 of Murtagh being the one to swear his oath to Jamie after Ellen’s death, because he swore to Ellen to protect the boy.
Since then, that’s all Murtagh has done. He has always been there to protect Jamie, even when he couldn’t understand what Jamie and Claire were doing because he didn’t know about time travel. I still love that the series wrote it in that Murtagh learned the truth.
So, there are likely storylines for Murtagh in the Outlander prequel. Lacroix hasn’t confirmed if he’s going to be in Blood of My Blood right now, but we don’t know the stage of development the series is even in right now. There’s still plenty of time to lock Lacroix in.
