Why Outlander Season 7 will likely be split in two parts
There are a lot of questions surrounding Outlander Season 7. One of those is when it will premiere, but another is will it air together?
We are waiting for any sort of news about Outlander Season 7. A premiere date would be amazing, but that’s not likely to happen for a few months. That’s assuming that the early 2023 premiere date is still possible.
There are a lot of variables in when we could get the seventh season. One of those is whether the season will be split in two. It’s likely that it will be. We’ll likely see eight episodes air sometime next year and then we’ll have to wait a little while for the second set of eight episodes.
Why splitting Outlander Season 7 makes sense
There are a lot of reasons I believe we’ll see a split season. The first is Droughtlander. With how long Droughtlander was for Season 6, everyone will want to keep this next one to a minimum. The problem is one season takes a long time to film and get through post-production. Then there’s the fact that this season is longer than most others, coming in at 16 episodes.
We know filming isn’t slated to end until February or March next year. That’s if the schedule can remain on time. But Maril Davis had previously said we’d get the new season in late 2022 or early 2023. So, this would suggest a split season is necessary.
There’s also the fact that STARZ doesn’t air 16-episode seasons usually. Look at most shows on the network and you’ll see that they’re around 10 to 12 episodes at the most. They don’t usually air all in one go, with at least a week off in the schedule. Even Outlander has had a week off during the seasons.
STARZ only airs one or two shows at a time. Taking 16 weeks (and likely 17 if there’s a week off) for one show doesn’t seem like that much of a smart move for other TV shows. Instead, STARZ is going to use something like Outlander to help boost the ratings for other shows. This would mean eight episodes of Outlander followed by a new series.
Having two shorter Droughtlanders is better than one big Droughtlander.
