Outlander Book Club: A Breath of Snow and Ashes Chapter 106 breakdown
Just the Outlander chapter
We start with an explanation of what’s going on. Everyone has hired a ship to get to Ocracoke. The idea is to be there for when Bonnet returns, sure that’s where he will return. Remember, there was a mention of a meeting, and Eppie says the dark of the moon. That’s going to be the following day.
Jamie gets off the ship and decides to walk from one side to another to cover the ground and see if Bonnet is already there. Meanwhile, Roger and Ian crisscross the island from another direction, routinely seeing each other while they do it.
While walking, Roger sees the standing stones that Donner, Otter Tooth, and others came through. He decides to step away from it slowly. There are times that I have to remember that the lore around the stones in the series is different to the books.
In the series, we hear the stones like Roger, Bree, and Claire. This is to make it clear what they’ve come up to without even needing to show the stones. In the books, they only hear the stones at certain times, and I believe it’s only when they pass through—but you can correct me there. The lore around the stones really does end up mixed up in my head at times.
Claire remains on the ship. She’s looking out for where the slave ship could turn up because that’s surely what the meeting is for. When a ship does turn up, everyone tries to get to it. However, whoever is on board the ship fires at the sails of the hired ship. Claire and Captain Roarke are forced to sail away.
Roger calls out for Brianna, but it does little good for now. We do have hope that everyone will be able to get to Brianna before it’s too late, though.
