Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

There is a lot of foreshadowing in this chapter. Roger keeps wondering whether ordination is right for him, and we know that in the end, there are a lot of other things going on that prevent it from happening. However, he still needs to find his place and figure out how he’s going to help the people of the Ridge.

Of course, Roger’s family will always come first. He does what he can now to get back to Bree, and he will do what he needs to so he can save Brianna, Jemmy, and Mandy in the future.

The other bit of foreshadowing is in Bonnet’s story. He’s terrified of drowning, which foreshadows that drowning will become his execution. However, Brianna has made him a promise.

Adapting A Breath of Snow and Ashes chapter

Not all this chapter was used in the series. There was nothing about the talisman and Roger getting the ruby ring. This didn’t surprise me considering how the show has to condense things. We also didn’t get Manfred, but that’s because he doesn’t show up in Outlander and it would have been odd to throw him in at this point. Remember that all this took place in Outlander Season 5 instead of Season 6.

However, Eppie’s part is used. Claire ends up offering her medical treatment and that leads to her sharing what she knows about Brianna. It’s enough for everyone to get to Bree, and the way Claire got the information made a lot of sense for Claire’s character.

The other part used was Bonnet sharing his fear. We needed this vulnerable moment between the two. After all, Bree promising not to let Bonnet drown is a potential motivator for what Bree does when Bonnet is being executed. There was no way for the series to avoid it.
