Diana Gabaldon has talked more about Outlander Season 7 and whether it could be the end. Will the season finale work as a series finale if that is necessary?
Right now, there is a lot of speculation about Outlander Season 7 being the end. Sony and STARZ are in talks for an eighth season, but it’s possible that those negotiations come to a close with bad news for fans. There is a chance that Season 7 will be the end.
We have to look at other TV shows on premium cable networks and broadcast networks. Even look at the likes of Netflix, Prime Video, and other streaming platforms. Getting to seven seasons is a major achievement. A lot of shows are cancelled after two or three seasons. So, we should be proud as fans to see the show get to the seventh season.
Gabaldon is certainly proud of that achievement. She notes that the seven seasons are great, and if it means wrapping there, then so be it. There’s nothing wrong with that. The question is whether there’s a way to bring the story to an end.
Diana Gabaldon talks an Outlander Season 7 ending
If the show does end with the seventh season, Gabaldon shared with The Times that she and the producers have talked about how to wrap it all up. This is a series that deserves a proper ending, and not an abrupt one because there were more books to tell the tale.
She shares that there is the ability to bring the show to a reasonable end. That end may not be great for all of us, but it sounds like there’s a way to wrap up the majority of the storylines.
One thing we want to see as fans is the ghost explanation. That’s coming up in the 10th and final book in the series, but we also need to see it explained in the TV series. We’d also love to see stability at Fraser’s Ridge to feel like we’re leaving the characters in peace. That’s despite the Revolutionary War on their doorstep.
We know production for the season is going on right now. It’s not wrapping until early next year, which means if there is a decision soon on making it the final season, there should be time to work the final episode as a series finale.
