We start the chapter with Brianna on a ship. She has no idea what the ship is called or where it is, but she listens carefully to something be said on the other side of a door. The ship is close to North Carolina’s Outer Banks, with a place called Ocracoke mentioned.

Bree learns who has taken her. Stephen Bonnet walks in, and initially, it looks like he’s going to attack. However, he finds out that she’s pregnant and loses interest. We find out later from the prostitute that Bonnet had a bad experience with a pregnant woman and he no longer tempts that fate.

Bonnet explains everything that happened to Bree. He paid Forbes to abduct her, and he shares that Josh is in the cargo to be sold. However, Bonnet doesn’t share why he’s taken her or where he’s going.

So, after Bonnet is done with the prostitute, Bree decides to use this to her advantage. She asks the prostitute, Eppie, to get word to Roger or Jamie. She mentions Ocracoke but also knows that Bonnet could sail elsewhere at any time. Just for Roger and Jamie to know about Bonnet will be enough. At least they know who has Bree.

Brianna bribes Eppie with a ruby ring. It’s the best thing she has to get Eppie to risk her life. Eppie vaguely agrees, but once she’s gone, the ship sets sail. Bree just has to hope that Eppie will go in search for Roger and Jamie.
