Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Roger at Reverend McMillan’s house in Edenton. It’s the eve of his ordination, but he isn’t sure he’s ready to take these vows. He realizes this due to the nature of the conversations.

Roger does note how hard the women are working in the house. The men get to gather and talk while the women need to make sure the men have enough to drink and eat. He feels a little guilty for the women working so hard, but he can’t offer to help in this time period.

The big news of the conversation is the burning of Fort Johnston. Roger still has no idea that Jamie and Claire were there, but that’s sure to come up at some point in the story. Before anything more is said, Warren Lee starts to describe the Battle of Bunker Hill. Of course, this is an important topic with the Revolutionary War now taking place.

Lee talks about the courage of the soldiers, but he also describes the lives lost and the horror of the battlefield. Roger needs to take a walk after hearing all that, and that’s when he starts to think about the men he has killed. He wonders if he’s even ready for his ordination considering he has his own doubts with the things he’s had to do.

When he gets back to the house, the mood has shifted considerably. Jamie is there, and Jamie shares that Brianna has been taken. Jamie orders Roger to come, not that Roger would ever decide not to when it comes to Bree.
