Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Claire thinking about Jamie. She needs to get word to Fergus and Marsali, and she’ll do that via letter from the ink, quill, and paper she’s taken and hidden. She realizes that Jamie was probably taken to Wilmington, but there is a chance that he turned to friends on the coast. Fergus will be able to find him.

Before she can do much, she is taken to Mrs. Martin’s room. Mrs. Martin is now up and well. When Claire is ordered to get a tray for the governor, her thoughts are back on escaping. However, she doesn’t get that chance. There are others around.

Claire is a bit like a general dogsbody at the palace, but she is also still given the task of copying correspondence. This leads to a discussion about ghosts. The governor sometimes feels like he can see the spirit of one of his deceased sons.

The next morning, Claire is taken by Mary—the cook—to another room. Mrs. Martin left, and now Claire is given Mrs. Martin’s clothes. She needs to impersonate the governor’s wife for a short time. It’s not all that clear why just yet, but Claire isn’t going to say no. I guess we’ll find out why in the coming chapters.
