Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter begins with Jamie looking at Claire’s hand. I love that we get this tenderness between them, as well as some humor. We need it with everything that’s going on right now.

Brown’s men are getting a little disheartened. The stone-throwing hit some of them, and they’re not happy about it. It’s clear that Richard Brown’s actions to smear the Frasers’ name led to some consequences against him and his own men. They’re not too impressed about that.

Something that we do learn in this chapter is that Tom is in love with Claire. Jamie can tell just by looking at Tom, and that’s why Tom is helping them. He wants to keep Claire safe out of love, which is technically a good thing. At least one of the men in the group is on their side.

Young Ian shows up in the night. He wants to get Jamie and Claire away. They can run into the woods and hide. That’s not going to be possible, though. Jamie knows that they’ll end up living with bounties on their heads. Jamie already knows what that is like. It’s best for them to remain with Brown for now. At least Ian knows where they are, which will help save everyone in the future.

Jamie decides against waking Claire up to give her some hope. With her glass face, he needs to make Claire believe they are still in trouble. Otherwise Richard will know something is going on, and Jamie can’t allow that to happen.
