Just the Outlander chapter

We start the chapter with Roger, who is surprised by all the alcohol it takes to win a war. He shouldn’t be surprised by this, though. He remembers his time in academia. His thoughts are interrupted when Davy Caldwell turns up.

There is a conversation about Roger’s plans for his future. He confirms that he is still on a path for ordination as a Presbyterian minister. Caldwell is a Presbyterian, so he’s happy to hear this.

Davy has questions about Jamie’s loyalty. It turns out there are rumors that Jamie has turned Whig and that he’s still Tory. Which one is right? Roger makes it very clear that Jamie and himself are Whig. Caldwell can trust Jamie’s honor.

However, there’s a fight that’s broken out and it’s all about honor. Gerald Forbes doesn’t trust Jamie, but it turns out that this isn’t about the rumors involving Malva. Could you imagine what that fight would be like? Instead, it looks like it’s to do with the side of the war that Jamie is on. Jamie will not allow anyone to libel his honor.

The chapter ends with an article from Fergus’s paper. It sets out all the declaration set by those fighting for liberty. It’s clear that the people are happy with how the laws are run, but they don’t want the Crown overseeing everything. They want to be independent.
