You’ve read the book and you’ve watched the movie, now it’s time for The Time Traveler’s Wife TV series to get through Droughtlander.

Droughtlanders are long and hard. While you could watch Outlander over and over again to get through it, there is a lot of other content out there to check out. HBO has some excellent content to try, including the new series The Time Traveler’s Wife.

You’ll know this as a book and a movie. Well, the source material has been adapted into a TV series, and it is currently airing on HBO.

What is The Time Traveler’s Wife about?

The series follows the book in the sense that it is about two people who fall in love. However, they do things a little backward because Henry DeTamble is a time traveler. He turns up to Clare Abshire’s home when she’s just six, but he is in his 40s.

From there, Clare gets to know Henry more and eventually falls for him. She also finds out that she’s his wife in the future, and we get to see just how complicated that story gets. Over the course of six episodes, we get to meet Clare and Henry, getting to know their pasts, their lives together, and what’s to come in the future.

Why watch The Time Traveler’s Wife during Droughtlander

How is this a good series for Outlander fans? Well, there are a few elements that are similar. The first is the love story. Henry and Clare’s story is more than just a romance. We get to see the highs and lows of their relationship partly thanks to Henry’s DNA anomaly that causes him to time travel without much warning.

Then there’s the fact that it includes time travel. We’ve fallen in love with Claire and Jamie, who only made things work because time travel was possible in the story. While Claire and Jamie get to stay in one place and time (for the most part), Clare and Henry have to navigate Henry’s inability to control his time traveling.

We also get a story of life. Clare has friends in her own time, and she has a life that Henry has no part of when he’s away traveling. She has to wait around for him, never really knowing how long he’ll be gone or where he visits. Meanwhile, Henry is trapped with reliving some events at older ages. He also lives with the knowledge that he’s never seen himself older than a certain age.

It’s a beautiful tale that has been well written for HBO. It also stars Rose Leslie and Theo James as Clare and Henry, and they are certainly going to sell the show for you.

The Time Traveler’s Wife is available to stream on HBO. New episodes air Sundays.
