Fergus had some major moments throughout Outlander Season 6. We saw him hit rock bottom, and it was almost the end. Here’s a look at his standout moment from the entire season.
It was always going to be difficult for Fergus Fraser during Outlander Season 6. Everything was getting to him. He didn’t feel like he could provide for his family at the Ridge because of only having one hand, and it was made all the worse when Marsali was attacked during the fifth season finale.
We knew from the books that it would be a dark story for Fergus. It seemed even darker on the series as we watched it play out in real time rather than have Jamie tell us about it after the fact. While that moment between Fergus and Jamie was excellent, there was another moment that stood out more for me in Outlander Season 6.
Fergus’s standout moment in Outlander Season 6
The top moment was his reaction to Henri-Christian’s birth. At first, all he cared about was Marsali getting through the labor. It was a hard one, and Marsali feared she would die. Fergus was there for her in her moment of need—well, once Roger found him and gave him a stern talking to.
It was after that things changed. Fergus took one look at Henri-Christian and passed the baby back to Claire. Marsali’s reaction to Henri-Christian is my favorite of hers, and Fergus’s reaction is my favorite of his. They are both so different.
It’s not a positive reaction. Fergus hates the fact that his son is born a dwarf. At first, it seems like Fergus is ashamed, but he’s actually scared. He knows the life of dwarves. He knows that he isn’t always going to be around to protect Henri-Christian, and he’s terrified of what that means for his son. That reaction at the birth is that of a scared father and not a disgusted one. Sure, there will also be the grief of dashed dreams, but it is mostly fear—and considering the life Fergus had before Jamie and Claire adopted him, that’s really not too surprising.
