Young Ian gets some excellent character development throughout Outlander Season 6. There is one moment that stands out the most from all the rest.
When Young Ian returned from the Mohawk in Outlander Season 5, it was clear there was a big reason why. We would find out more detail in the sixth season, and that detail came in the fourth episode, “The Hour of the Wolf.”
There were some excellent Young Ian moments in other episodes of the season, but “The Hour of the Wolf” contains the bulk of them. It also contains the most standout moment for the character.
This is when we learn about his time with the Mohawk—the highs and the lows. Here’s a look at his top moment from the entire season.
Young Ian’s standout moment in Outlander Season 6
It’s all about when he tells Jamie about his daughter. This is when Ian and Jamie first get to the Cherokee village and Ian sees Kaheroton for the first time since leaving the Mohawk. A fight breaks out, and Ian has no choice but explain why he hates Kaheroton so much. It all links to Ian’s Mohawk wife, Emily.
Telling Jamie the story is a change from the book, but it’s a change I highly appreciate. It parallels the fourth season premiere when Ian turns to Jamie for help to deal with the trauma of what happened with Geillis. In Outlander Season 6, he continues to build on that bond he has with his uncle, opening up to him in a way he hasn’t with anyone else.
We see this vulnerability to Young Ian. At the same time, we see this strength in him. Something that the whole season reminded us is that it’s not weak to lean on other people in moments of struggle. That’s what Ian did here.
