Outlander Season 6, Episode 7 may have brought Claire’s ether storyline come to an end, and it didn’t involve the house burning down.
I know there were a lot of people who didn’t like the ether storyline. A lot of that was because it wasn’t in the books, so fans felt it changed Claire’s character too much. However, I appreciated the change, showing us that even the strongest of people can turn to substances to help them—and that doesn’t make them weak!
However, it looks like the storyline has come to an end. I did wonder if it would end due to the fire at the Big House due to Claire using the ether around an open flame. That isn’t the case, though. Instead, it seems to have come to an end in a way that will make many smile.
Claire turns to Jamie in Outlander Season 6, Episode 7
Up to this episode, Claire has mostly been able to hide the fears in her head. However, they all came up in Outlander season 6, Episode 7. Claire started to fear that she had killed Malva in her stupor. When Lizzie shared she was the one knocking at the surgery door that day, Claire realized that the dream of Malva really was just a, well, dream.
That didn’t stop Lionel Brown from showing up, though. He taunted her with words about how she had caused problems for the people she loves. Fortunately, Jamie was finally able to see how Claire was reacting, and it was time for Claire to open up.
She shared how she used ether as a way to sleep. Then she shared how she feared that her selfishness to be with Jamie led to Brianna being raped, Roger being sold into slavery, and many other problems. And sure, it did, but her actions also led to some great things.
Jamie has a chance to get through to Claire. If it wasn’t for her to come back, they wouldn’t have Jemmy and the new baby on the way. Fergus would never have met Marsali. A lot of great things wouldn’t have happened. And we have to remember that Jamie wouldn’t be alive without Claire. So, it’s not all bad.
Now that the secret is out, Claire will be able to turn to Jamie to lean on. Allow him to help her when the fears and anxiety creep in.
The best thing is that we get to the bottom of Claire’s anxiety and need for ether. This was more than just coping with the trauma from the Outlander Season 5 finale. It’s linked to many more fears and concerns, giving us a very caring side to Claire as it looks like the ether storyline has come to an end.
