Outlander Season 6, Episode 3 touched on some difficult and heavy topics. The show has given us a chance to delve into those moments.

As we continue to look back over Outlander Season 6 so far, we get to the Inside the World featurette for Episode 3. It’s not quite the same as our usual Inside the World featurettes, but it’s better than nothing at all.

This episode was a big one for Fergus. He reached a breaking point after learning that the fisherfolk decided to put his son, Henri-Christian, into the river to see if the baby would float. Fergus felt like a failure, and he feared for his son’s future.

The end of the featurette goes into what Fergus does. We hear from Sam Heughan about how important a scene like this is for the other actors on set, and you can tell that he wants everyone to get a chance to shine.

Tom, Malva, and more in Outlander Season 6, Episode 3

The featurette starts with a focus on Henri-Christian, and Richard Rankin trying to explain what the boys were doing. It’s easy to look at the situation with 21st-century knowledge, but the fisherfolk are superstitious people. It’s also clear that it’s the parents who spread the superstitions, with one of the boys saying “My da says so.”

While Henri-Christian and Fergus were certainly important points, this episode also helped to develop the bond between Tom and Claire. Caitriona Balfe notes that there is an intimacy between doctor and patient, and that’s what we experience during this part of the episode.

What about Malva, though? Jessica Reynolds had a chance to share insights into her character, and even John Bell shared a little about what Young Ian is thinking at this moment in time.
