We got to meet Flora MacDonald as tensions rise in Wilmington in Outlander Season 6, Episode 5. Here are the biggest questions after the episode.

Every episode of Outlander leaves us with some questions. Sure, we can look at the books for some answers, but not everyone wants to read ahead. Some like not knowing what’s to come, while others just want to enjoy the show separately and will read the books when it’s all said and done. As a Game of Thrones fan who watched the show first and then started the books after the show finished, I can understand that.

Outlander Season 6, Episode 5 brought us some big moments. Flora MacDonald wanted to encourage people to remain loyal to the Crown, while Jamie had to finally tell John the truth about the side he was really on. Then there was Malva doing her creepy Malva things.

Let’s dive into the questions left over after the episode.

5 big questions after Outlander Season 6, Episode 5

1. When will Claire get caught with her ether?

Claire placed some ether on a handkerchief during the episode. She needed it to find some peace after thinking back to her time in Paris with King Louis. Now she’s not just using it to sleep but she’s increased her usage to just cope throughout the day.

This has to come back to haunt her at some point. Someone needs to find out what she’s doing. Who will it be, and how?

2. Who did leave the love charm?

The women find a love charm on the Ridge. Of course, there are suspicions that it’s the fisherfolk, with Amy being the one blamed. Bree didn’t like that, and she did wonder if it could be Amy at one point.

There’s a moment in the episode that gives us a clue as to who really left it. Malva was cutting off the fingers of the dead Sin Eater, and it looks like she’s the one leaving the charm. Who is it for?

3. What’s wrong with Lizzie?

Before the talk of Amy and the love charm could continue, Lizzie had a turn. Bree clearly knew what it was, but it’s something that hasn’t come up in the show just yet. This is something that is included in the books from Drums of Autumn.

Lizzie has malaria, and every now and then there’s a bout of it. Claire has been treating her for it, which is why Bree knew what to give the Beardsleys who were looking after Lizzie. It is a shame that this is the first time it’s come up. Why has it come up now?

4. Will we see Fergus and Marsali again?

Marsali was packing to get ready to move to New Bern. Fergus has a print shop there thanks to Jocasta. This could mean it’s the last that we see of the family.

I wouldn’t count on that just yet, though. Marsali makes it clear to Bree that the cousins will get to meet. I feel like this is a nod from the series writers that Marsali and Fergus will still be included in future episodes. After all, they’re only heading to New Bern instead of further north like in the books.

5. Who is in the jail cell?

The very end of Outlander Season 6, Episode 5 brought us the biggest question of them all. Who was whistling?

We’ve already looked into this separately. It’s the tune being whistled that gives it all away. This is someone from Claire’s time. Or at least, around Claire’s time. It’s someone from the 20th century, and we know a certain time traveler from the 1960s is still out there somewhere.
