Let’s take a look inside the episode at Roger’s three best moments.
3 best Roger moments from Outlander Season 6, Episode 5
Being able to sing again
We start with Roger being at the McCallum’s place. It’s clear that Amy likes him, but he isn’t interested in her in that way. He doesn’t quite realize that he needs to pull back until Bree says something, though.
However, it’s in this moment that we get an amazing moment for Roger. He sings again. Fans will remember that he struggled to sing again after the events at Alamance in Outlander Season 5. It is a small change to the books as Roger takes longer to get even just a bit of his singing voice back, but for the show, I love it!
Digging himself a hole with Bree
Oh, poor Roger. He has a habit of speaking before thinking. In this case, he tells Brianna that Amy needs him and she doesn’t. He didn’t mean it the way it sounded, but it did sound like he felt a bit put out.
In fact, he’s more in awe of what his wife can do. She’s bringing indoor plumbing to the Ridge, and while people in the future will do it, only Bree is the one capable of doing it here. He loves that about her, but he doesn’t see that his family needs him in other ways. I love that we see this human side to him.
Having to make a choice to protect himself
When he’s helping to put the bell up in the tower, he catches Malva Christie with Obediah Henderson. Malva immediately threatens Roger to tell everyone that he’s sleeping with Amy McCallum. Everyone will believe her.
Roger doesn’t doubt it for a second. He can’t bring that sort of shame to his family, even though it isn’t true. So, he has to just give Malva what she wants. He knows it’s wrong, but we see him make that choice to protect himself for his family’s sake.
