Claire tests out the ether
With Malva becoming Claire’s apprentice, the two need to practice using the ether. Josiah and Lizzie are the two Claire asks, and Josiah offers to go first. When Malva starts flirting, Lizzie decides to offer to go first instead to make a good impression.
Malva is excited to see the ether at work, while Josiah is concerned. Next it’s Josiah’s turn, helping Lizzie see that it did work.
Now that Malva has seen it in work, she can see why Tom calls it the “devil’s work.” She’s not going to tell him what they’re doing or he’d stop her from going to see Claire.
At the end of the episode, Kezzie wants to know what it was like to be put under. We continue to see these little bonding and flirting moments between Lizzie and the twins.
Meanwhile, Malva wants to know what Claire writes in her book. She’s a curious wee thing and gets to see all the drawings Claire has made as well as all of her notes. Her curiosity is extremely clear at the end of the episode, When Jamie returns, Claire can’t wait to get her hands on him. Who is spying on them? Malva of course, which is going to be important for something she says in later episodes.
