5 takeaways from the promo and synopsis for Outlander 6×03

Fergus blames himself for Henri-Christian

We start with a couple of moments about Fergus. The first is from the promo, which sees Fergus blame himself for Henri-Christian being a dwarf. He believes that he is this way because Marsali was beaten while Henri-Christian was in the womb.

Claire knows this isn’t the case. It’s not going to stop Fergus from blaming himself though.

Fergus fears for Henri-Christian’s future

That’s not all for Fergus. He will also worry about what’s to come for his newborn son. He’ll know what life is like for dwarves in this time. There isn’t that much of a bright future.

It doesn’t help that people are going to talk about why Marsali gave birth to a dwarf. Remember that these are all superstitious people. Except for traveling to the colonies, most of them had never been out of their village and we can remember what life was like in Cranesmuir.

Tom Christie gets his surgery

Tom wants surgery. He made that clear at the end of the previous episode when he realized he could no longer grab the whip to beat Malva. Of course, Claire doesn’t know why he changed his mind, but she’s not going to say no to the surgery.

We’ll see it play out in the episode. It looks like, true to the books, Tom refuses to use ether. That’s not surprising when people of the time don’t understand it.

Young Ian and Malva continue to bond

We got a beautiful moment between Young Ian and Marsali at the end of the previous episode. The bonding will continue, and that means we’ll hopefully learn more about Young Ian’s time with the Mohawk.

We now know that he and his wife had a baby. What happened to that baby? Why did Young Ian leave the child behind? More bonding means Marsali may get to find out.

Roger has to act fast to save Henri-Christian

Finally, it’s all about that image we got months ago. The promo makes it clear that the baby is Henri-Christian. Some of the fisherfolk believe him to be a demon so they put him in the river. Roger has to act fast to save the baby.

It’s clear that he does. It’s then going to be up to Jamie to set things straight that that is never to happen again.
