What’s wrong with Henri-Christian in Outlander Season 6?
Henri-Christian made his entrance into the world in Outlander Season 6, Episode 2. It was immediately clear that he was different.
Marsali and Fergus are already facing a dark storyline. Things are going to get a little harder for them during the rest of the season. The birth of their son is going to cause some gossip on the Ridge.
Henri-Christian’s birth was full of fear and concern. He wasn’t moving much and the labor wasn’t progressing that quickly. What did it mean for him? Well, Fergus helped speed up Marsali’s contractions and aided in the birth of baby Henri-Christian. While it was a happy time, it was also met with some extra fear and a little disappointment.
You could tell Fergus was angry at the situation. He could barely look at his son. Why is that?
Henri-Christian is a dwarf in Outlander
We find out from Claire that Henri-Christian is a dwarf. This is what upsets Fergus, although Marsali is quickly welcoming to her newborn. A lot of parents—especially at the time—would act the way Fergus did, so let’s not get too angry about it right now.
Young Ian put it well to Marsali. Fergus is grieving. He was expecting a healthy baby just like the first three. He has to grieve the loss of that in a time when disabilities were considered a punishment from God, especially disabilities at birth. Marsali and Henri-Christian will become the talk of the Ridge for a while.
We also know Fergus will have seen dwarves and what can happen to them. There would have been some in Paris, so he’ll have an idea of what type of life his son could face growing up. That’s going to play on his mind, along with questions about why Henri-Christian is the way he is. Fergus will continue to blame himself for the attack on Marsali, not understanding that dwarfism comes from a chromosome anomaly.
