Outlander Book Club: A Breath of Snow and Ashes Chapter 34 breakdown
Just the Outlander chapter
Claire and Jamie had no choice but to return Lionel Brown’s body to his family. They stuck with the story that Lionel had succumbed to his injuries, although Jamie made it very clear who Lionel had been working with.
What I loved is that Bird joined the group. Bird and his people had been accused of burning the houses down. Now that Jamie knew the truth, he made sure Bird knew it. It’s clear that Bird wants to make it clear to the Browns that he doesn’t tolerate such a thing. For now, he lets it rest.
The Browns say little. They take Lionel’s body and that’s it.
On the way home, Claire thinks about Donner. He wasn’t at Brownsville, and it’s clear that he didn’t return there. The Browns didn’t know about the attack. So, is Donner dead after all? Does she even hope that he’s dead?
She ends the chapter asking Jamie if it’s all over. It’s clear that it’s not, though. Jamie knows these types of things are never over. They can expect trouble from the Browns again at another time.
