Are the Outlander stones open today? (February 1)
Today is a special day in the pagan calendars. Does that mean the Outlander stones are open? Will anyone travel through time today?
Nobody that we know of in the world of Outlander has traveled through the stones on Feb. 1, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t possible. This is one of the big days in the Pagan calendars, especially the Gaelic calendar, which is the focus for the book series and its time traveling rules.
It’s also a special day in the Chinese calendar. It is Chinese New Year today! Happy Year of the Tiger!
Outlander stones open today
Feb. 1 is one of the days that the stones open. You’ll want to watch yourself if you’re anywhere near stone circles. The stones will be open until Feb. 2 at least, as the holiday ends when the sun goes down on that day. However, we know the portals can still have some residual energy around the celebration days.
It’s all about Imbolc in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere, the holidays are reversed, but this is still an important day. It’s Lammas or Lughnasadh in the Southern Hemisphere.
Since the series is set in the Northern Hemisphere, we’ll concentrate on Imbolc. This is the halfway point between Yule and Ostara (the winter solstice and the spring equinox respectively). Imbolc means “in the belly of the mother,” and it’s when the seeds of spring start to stir. In fact, it’s a big day in the U.S. and Canada as it’s Groundhog Day to determine if we have an early spring or not.
The day marks the pregnancy of ewes, which is important in harvesting. If you look at the pagan holidays, you’ll see that they are around harvesting, whether it’s to mark the beginning, middle, or end of the season.
If you could travel through the stones, where would you choose to go? Would you plan to go in the middle of winter? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
