With Matthew a vampire, Diana may need to make a decision about whether she’ll become immortal like him on A Discovery of Witches.
Caution: There are spoilers from the All Souls trilogy of books in this post.
When a storyline involves a vampire, there is always the question about the human becoming immortal. This is especially important in a romance story between vampires and humans. Will the human really continue with their normal existence when they know their love will never grow older?
It is something Diana and Matthew will need to consider. Will Diana choose to become a vampire for her husband and mate?
Diana will eventually die in A Discovery of Witches
At the end of the books, Diana remained mortal. Of course, that didn’t mean that she would live out her days as a mortal afterward.
We turn to author Deborah Harkness when it comes to how this storyline played out. She has confirmed whether Diana would choose an immortal life with Matthew or not. After all, fans did share the theory that Diana would create a spell to become immortal.
Harkness confirms that Diana has remained mortal. She will eventually die.
It is interesting in the “eventually” comment. This could suggest that Diana performs some sort of spell to extend her life to be with Matthew. However, it’s only an extension and not a full immortality spell.
Diana and Matthew do get to live their lives together after the events at the end of the third book. They have their twins, too, creating a loving family of their own.
Is this the way A Discovery of Witches Season 3 going to follow the same storyline? That’s something we’ll need to see as the season plays out.
A Discovery of Witches Season 3 airs Saturdays on Sundance Now, Shudder, and AMC+.
