Tobias Menzies is going to be back on our screens soon, although not necessarily in Outlander. He’s landed a role in Apple TV+’s Manhunt.
We’re not getting to see flashbacks with Frank or Black Jack Randall on Outlander. At least, there are no signs of them just yet. However, we will get to see more of Tobias Menzies on our screens in the near future.
TVLine shared that he’s landed a role in the Apple TV+ limited series Manhunt. In fact, Menzies will get the lead role on the series—and yes, he plays a protagonist! Get all those thoughts of Black Jack Randall out of your head.
Who will Tobias Menzies play on Manhunt?
Manhunt is based on the 2007 novel Manhunt: The 12-Day Search for Lincoln’s Killer by James Swanson. It follows Edwin Stanton, friend and war secretary to Abraham Lincoln. In real history, Stanton refused to give up the hunt for Lincoln’s killer, John Wilkes Booth. He was nearly driven to madness to find the man.
At the same time, Stanton wanted to continue Lincoln’s vision and legacy. This was the first-ever American Presidential assassination. It came shortly after the end of the Civil War, and it could have caused the country to go backward. There’s no way Lincoln’s supporters wanted that to happen.
Tobias Menzies will take on the role of Stanton. Over the course of the limited series, we’ll get to see the crime drama play out. It is historical fiction, but it’s also a conspiracy thriller.
There are numerous people from real history who will be included in the story, including the Black historical figures whose lives were affected and joined into the manhunt and escape. One of those is Mary Simms, who was a former slave of the doctor who treated Booth’s injuries and gave him safe harbor after the assassination.
Only Menzies has been named in the series so far.
Manhunt will come to Apple TV+. Stay tuned for more information about the series.
