How long did Sam Heughan think Outlander would last?
Outlander Season 7 is confirmed, but Sam Heughan didn’t think it would last so long. How long did he think he would play Jamie Fraser for?
When Sam Heughan shared his thoughts about Tom Ellis potentially playing the roles of Black Jack Randall and Frank Randall, he also revealed how long he thought he was going to be in the role of Jamie Fraser. It turns out the idea of being in it for seven seasons did not originally enter his mind.
According to TVLine, Heughan shared that he thought he would be in the role for two years. He doesn’t say why he thought that just that he thought it would be a two-year project and then he’d move onto something else.
It’s now been eight years—remember that he landed the role in 2013! He’ll be moving into his ninth year in the role this year.
Is Outlander Season 7 going to be the end?
Sam Heughan has certainly benefitted from his time in the role. He’s making a name for himself on the big screen and he has his own whisky line now. He’s also branching out into other projects and charitable events.
However, it’s no wonder more and more fans worry that Outlander Season 7 is going to be the end. After all, it’s clear that Heughan didn’t think he’d still be in the role eight years later.
This isn’t to say he’s looking at ending his time in the role any time soon though. There is nothing to say that he’s going to leave the show. He’s proud of what he’s accomplished, and he has become a producer on the series now, giving him a chance to learn more about behind-the-scenes work.
Talks will be happening between STARZ and the series right now. There are more books to develop after An Echo in the Bone. However, we know all good things come to an end. There’s no way to predict if Season 7 is going to be that point just yet.
