Do you need to re-read the other Outlander books before Bees?
Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone is out, but you’re not done with your re-read of the other Outlander books. Do you need to complete the re-read?
You want to get done with your re-read of the previous Outlander books so you can jump to Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. The problem is you’ve not got enough time, and you’re fed up of trying to avoid all the spoilers posted online.
It’s come to the point where you’re thinking of skipping over your re-read. Do you really need to do it so you can understand everything that happens in the new book in the series? Are there any important moments from previous books that you need to make sure you’ve remembered?
Diana Gabaldon weaves previous stories into future Outlander books
There’s no need to actually re-read the previous Outlander books to understand Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. Diana Gabaldon has written the novel in a way to help you remember the events if you haven’t read previous books for a while. You can even jump to Book 9 and understand most of it without ever reading the previous books.
Weaving in past storylines is important. Some people will pick up the current book in the series without realizing it’s the current book. It’s important that people reading this can still enjoy it and then go back over previous books.
At the same time, Gabaldon needs to make sure the books don’t get bogged down with reminders of past Outlander books. Those who have read them all don’t need the constant reminders.
In my opinion, she has done a brilliant job of the weaving. The moments you need to remember from previous books are brought up quickly. Usually, it involves Claire just mentioning something quickly that connects to the current situation. That’s it.
There are times that you might need some sort of reminder about who some of the characters are. Google is your best friend for this. But for the main storyline, there’s no need to re-read the previous books if you want to jump to Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.
