Bluebell is a new dog that comes to live at the Ridge in Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. Who was her former master? How does it connect to Claire?

Caution: There are minor spoilers for Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone in this post.

The Ridge has certainly been quiet without Rollo, but there’s at least one new dog who joins the family in Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. Bluebell shows up starving and looking for a family. Of course, the Frasers can’t help but take her in, wondering why she’s ended up so hungry.

She gets the name Bluebell by Jamie thanks to the blueish color of her fur. Fanny calls her Bluey, and she immediately becomes Bluey’s favorite human.

However, the question remains who Bluebell used to belong to. Could her master come back to reclaim her? Jamie knows that isn’t going to happen.

Bluebell has a connection to Claire in Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone

Jamie makes it clear that he’d left Bluebell at the grave of her former master. So, her master is dead, and that’s what has led to Bluebell’s deteriorating state. It’s still not clear how she didn’t hunt for herself considering she’s a type of hound, but that’s not really the biggest question considering now she has a family who will look out for her.

Claire wants to know who the master was. It turns out it was one of the nameless men who attacked Claire in A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

This man was the sole survivor from the attack (except for Wendigo Donner who did eventually return to the Ridge and was the reason for the Big House burning down). Claire and Jenny saw him while shopping, and it certainly brings back some of the memories. However, Claire notes that she often pushes the memories away so she doesn’t have to think of them.

Bluebell belonged to him. After his death, Jamie left the dog with her master’s grave and then left. However, it looks like Bluebell found her way back to the Frasers to be part of the family.
