Outlander Book Club: The Fiery Cross Chapter 110 breakdown
Just the Outlander chapter
The chapter starts with a funeral. Otter Tooth is being buried, although I do see an irony in the Gaelic burial. This is not something Otter Tooth would have wanted, and I’m surprised that this fact doesn’t come up in Claire’s thoughts.
The burial is also for Dr. Rawlings. This is going to be Rawlings’s final burial place. It’s a chance for the man to rest in peace. Claire also notes that the burial is for the four other men who came through the stones with Otter Tooth; the men they know nothing about except that one was found dead in his own time.
After the funeral, the family heads back to the Big House. This is when Jamie asks Roger what they will do now that they know Jemmy can travel through the stones. Will Roger, Brianna, and Jemmy risk it?
Roger decides that this is not the time to travel through the stones. There is a war coming, and Roger needs to be in this time.
England has no idea what’s to come and the country is ill-prepared. He wonders what would have happened had the Regulators succeeded. It could have meant the bloodshed that will eventually come could have been avoided. By knowing a little about what’s to come, Roger could potentially help to avoid some of the bloodshed to come. He needs to be in this time right now.
Claire is relieved. Claire also notes that Brianna is relieved. The family will stay in one place. At least, for now.
