Young Ian has a diary that interests Claire and Jamie in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 109

Young Ian’s return certainly gets the place buzzing again in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 109. At first, it’s focused on the women who are quilting at the Big House, but it soon changes to focus on the diary that Young Ian has brought with him.

Young Ian has a black book. It’s all written in Latin, and Young Ian can understand the majority of it. Well, he can make out the words. He doesn’t fully comprehend everything that has been written in it.

This is because the book belonged to Otter Tooth. Claire and Jamie understand a lot more. Brianna and Roger are also able to help. It’s time for Young Ian to learn the truth about where Claire, Brianna, and Roger come from.

As well as the book, we also learn that Jemmy has the ability to time travel. Well, we can assume he does based on the things that happen in this chapter. And that’s where some of the foreshadowing is. I’ll get to that in the foreshadowing section of the breakdown.

Some of this chapter was used in the show, but not in great depth. There wasn’t really the need to get fully into Otter Tooth’s story. The important moments from the chapter with the opal and Jemmy complaining that it was hot and Young Ian learning the truth about time travel were used. I’ll get to my thoughts on how the chapter was adapted in that section of the post.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 109.
