Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

There is a little bit of foreshadowing in this chapter. It’s all about the gold. This isn’t the last we’ve seen or heard of the gold. It’s going to come up at a later point and in a later book. There just isn’t time for that now.

I think this chapter also foreshadows changes coming to River Run. Ulysses has had to leave, but he won’t be the only one leaving. Phaedre is eventually going to end up being sent to someone else, and eventually, River Run is going to be sold off completely. Jocasta and Duncan just simply can’t stay there when the Revolutionary War begins.

Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter

The chapter was only partly used in Outlander Season 5. We haven’t had any of the gold storyline yet, so it’s not surprising that part was skipped over. Honestly, I don’t think there’d be any need for it. The big thing is that we’d get to know more about the Bugs, but they just haven’t been a big part in the series up to this point. Not like they were in the book.

The gold risks too much happening. There just isn’t the time available on the series. The other storylines that come from it could be used in other ways.

Ulysses killing a man was included. Rather than Wolff showing up, Bonnet is working with Gerald Forbes on the series. I like this adaptation as it connects back to Brianna turning Forbes down. He is slighted and jealous, so naturally, he was going to turn to someone who could cause some big trouble for Jocasta and the Frasers/MacKenzies.

Ulysses killed Forbes to save Jocasta. It doesn’t really matter, though. The outcome for Ulysses would still be the same: death.

Rather than Ulysses just running off with nobody knowing where he’s gone, the series ties that in with another storyline. Lord John Grey is heading back to England, and Ulysses can go with him. It’s a perfect way to make sure we know what happens to Ulysses instead of always wondering if he managed to survive.
