Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
The chapter makes one thing clear: Bonnet wants Jemmy. This isn’t because he wants to be a father. It’s because he wants to get his hands on River Run, and being Jemmy’s father is the way into that.
We need to keep an eye out for Bonnet later. Don’t worry too much in The Fiery Cross with just a few chapters left. However, there is A Breath of Snow and Ashes coming up.
Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter
The chapter was partly used in the series. We got a chance to see Claire and Brianna see the whales on the beach, and that’s when Bonnet showed up. However, Jemmy wasn’t with the women.
In the series, this particular chapter was combined with chapters in A Breath of Snow and Ashes. For a TV series, this combination made a lot of sense. Bonnet getting away would have been a little anticlimactic for an episode of a TV show. Having him take Brianna and combining the sex trafficking storyline kept the drama increasing and made us wonder how Claire, Jamie, Roger, and Young Ian would find Bree.
