Outlander Season 6 will introduce the Christie family. The trio will be the main villains of the season, but they’re not your typical villains.
We know to look out for the Christie family when the trio turns up to the Ridge. Tom, Allan, and Malva are not to be trusted. However, the three are not the typical villains you’re used to seeing on screen.
In fact, in a way, one of them isn’t a villain. Malva is a product of her abusive upbringing. She doesn’t know much better, and when it comes to someone finally being able to help, it’s all too late. Those who have read A Breath of Snow and Ashes will understand that a lot more deeply knowing the whole story.
This isn’t to say what Malva did wasn’t wrong. It was very wrong, but there are outside factors to her decisions. She’s not as evil as someone like Allan Christie.
Not your typical villains in Outlander Season 6
Caitriona Balfe took some time to discuss the Christie family during NYCC 2021. She shared that it was “refreshing” not to have the typical villains in the storyline, and she focused the most on Malva as an example.
Malva befriends Claire, and not in a mean way. There isn’t an ulterior motive like what Geillis Duncan had when she befriended Claire at Leoch. Malva wants to be friends with Claire. She wants to learn from Claire, and they do end up building a great bond.
That all turns upside down when the story unfolds. It’s a destabilizing moment for Claire, as she realizes this young girl she’s taken in under her wing has a dark secret and could end up hurting Claire.
We certainly can’t wait to see how this storyline plays out on Outlander Season 6.
