Roger remembers details about his mother and her death in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 98

We’ve never really had the chance to know much about Roger’s parents up to this point in the books. That’s because Roger says he doesn’t remember much about them. That changes in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 98.

To be fair to Roger, his dad died when he was a baby. At least, that’s what he believes. There is more to the story, and we get some foreshadowing of that within this chapter. I’ll get to the foreshadowing in the section, but it all links to what really happened to his dad the night he went missing during the Second World War.

The chapter starts with Brianna concerned that Jemmy wouldn’t remember her if something happened. That’s what leads to Roger thinking about his own mom, someone he doesn’t think all that often about. It turns out that it’s not that he doesn’t remember, but that he’s locked some of the memories away in his mind.

We learn more about Roger’s mom and the events that led to her death. I think this is the first time we find out exactly how he’s related to the Reverend Wakefield. I’m sure it doesn’t come up before this point.

We haven’t had this chapter used in Outlander so far. I’m not sure if it’s ever going to be used, and I’ll get to my thoughts on the matter when we get to the adaptation section.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 98.
