Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Claire getting a chance to read through the medical journal. She’s seen to her own patients and managed to make her own notes. Now it’s time to look back at the things Dr. Rawlings treated. I love that despite his medicine being of the past, she’s still interested in the things he did and witnessed.

It’s a good thing that she’s going through the notes. She comes across entries involving the Camerons, including Jocasta’s eyesight. Claire has only managed to examine Jocasta once, and she isn’t certain what caused the blindness, but she does have her suspicions. She wants to see if Rawlings came to the same conclusions.

He did. Jocasta still had some eyesight at this point, but Claire notes that it’s now all gone. Claire things that it is glaucoma, but she’d need the tools of the 20th century to confirm it. She doesn’t have that. I guess, though, it doesn’t really matter, does it? After all, the eyesight is gone and it’s not like there would be anything to help treat it even if Claire did know the true cause of the blindness.

However, it’s all about Claire and Dr. Rawlings coming to some similar conclusions before moving on. That’s when Claire realizes that Dr. Rawlings has switched into Latin.

After confirming the grammar is bad, Jamie looks through the Latin and translates. They’re talking about someone, who they assume is Hector Cameron, getting up in the middle of the night and heading outside somewhere. There’s a mention of the French and of gold.

It turns out that it wasn’t Hector Cameron, though. Hector was in bed, so who was outside? That’s something for us to find out later.

Jamie asks to keep the journal for the time being. He wants to look through other Latin passages to see if there’s anything else. He’s curious about this.
