Outlander Book Club: The Fiery Cross Chapter 96 breakdown
Claire looks through Dr. Rawlings’s medical journal in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 96
Claire has a chance to look through Dr. Rawlings’s medical journal in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 96. It initially looks like it will be a quiet chapter, but it soon offers foreshadowing of some things to come.
We start with Claire reading the journal, where she comes across a bit about Hector Cameron. It turns out Dr. Rawlings examined Jocasta’s eyes, and Claire is certainly interested in his thoughts on the matter. Did he come to the same conclusions as her about Jocasta’s eyesight?
The topic moves on, though. Rawlings switches to Latin, and Claire realizes that this is probably for a good reason. She can’t read Latin, though, which is why she turns to Jamie for some help. He can understand it, even if it isn’t the best in terms of grammar. It doesn’t really matter when it was for Rawlings’s needs only.
There is definitely some foreshadowing in this chapter. There has already been a mention of Frenchman’s gold before, and this chapter makes it clear that there is more to this story to come. I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the relevant section.
It wasn’t used in the show, though, and I’m not all that surprised. I’ll get to thoughts on that, and why I don’t think it will come up in Outlander Season 6 either.
Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 96.
