Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Roger working in the woods alone. He’s getting supplies for the house, and there are times that he thinks back to his time in his own time. It’s clear that he misses the time period, but Brianna and his family will keep him in the past for now.

Kenny Lindsay comes across Roger in the woods. This is when the topic moves on to Tom Christie. Kenny knew Tom when they were in Ardsmuir, and he is surprised that Jamie allowed Tom to live on the Ridge. It makes a bit of sense to Kenny when Roger says that he was the one to okay it.

Tom was at Ardsmuir for longer than Jamie. He’d already built his own following, and he didn’t really like it when Jamie turned up and the men started to follow Jamie. It led to a few arguments between the factions in the prison.

It was the officer at the prison, Quarry, who suggested a way to fix all the problems. Jamie would become a freemason and include other prisoners. Tom was one of them. This made them all equal, and eventually, all the prisoners ended up joining. They became their own lodge.

It explains why Tom wasn’t mentioned when Jamie and Lord John Grey gained their friendship at Ardsmuir. There wasn’t as much of an issue once Quarry left.

The end of the chapter moves back to Jamie and Claire. Jamie now has a chance to share a little bit about Tom and them becoming a freemason. There’s a story that involves Sergeant Murchinson as a way to describe how Jamie and Tom were on opposite sides of many situations.

Is it all water under the bridge now? That’s something we’ll have to wait and see.
