Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Peter Bewlie and his brother-in-law showing up at Fraser’s Ridge. Peter needs help with taking down a bear that’s been terrorizing the Cherokee camps. Jamie is the Bear Killer, so the Cherokee believe that he will be able to help.

They also need Claire. Her skin is so pale that she’s viewed with some suspicion by the Native Americans. All creatures with white fur are viewed with some suspicion. They believe that Claire may have a connection to this bear that they think is a “ghost bear.”

While out on the hunt, Josiah Beardsley explains that not all of the problems within the camps can be attributed to the bear. He stole some of the food when he was trying to survive after running away from Aaron Beardsley.

However, there is still a bear out there. The hunting party continues, and this is also a chance to get to hear Brianna’s thoughts about Roger a little more. She admits that she’s worried about him while he’s away from her. During the day she’s fine; she can focus on other things. It’s at night that she worries the most.

It’s clear that Brianna worries that Roger will do something to hurt himself while he’s alone. She fears that maybe he will even kill himself. She doesn’t even need to say it all. It’s clear that Jamie and Claire have worried about similar things when it comes to Roger.
